Friday 13th freak accident, mums, kids recover

A woman, her baby and toddler are recovering in hospital after a freaky Friday the 13th accident in Glenwood.

A mother and her baby and toddler are recovering after a freak accident in Glenwood on Friday afternoon.

According to Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesman, the 35-year-old mother and her two daughters aged six days old and 3 years old, were injured when they jumped out of a moving vehicle at the Glenwood and Glenville Road intersection in Durban.

“Paramedics arrived on scene to find the bakkie parked on the side of the road while the mother and children were found sitting on the side of the road. On assessment, paramedics found that all three patients had sustained moderate injuries to their head and arms,” Meiring said.

The family was treated and taken to King Edward Hospital for further care. “The driver apparently lost control of the vehicle. The mother apparently managed to get the children out of the moving vehicle in attempt to save them. The mother then apparently jumped out of the vehicle,” he explained.

The driver, a man, managed to stop the vehicle in time. He fortunately escaped without injury, according to Meiring.
