Fence hopper nabbed

A local security officer was quick on his feet managing to apprehend a fence hopper recently.

A would-be thief got more than he bargained for when he was apprehended on the Berea recently.

The alert ADT Security Officer, Petrus Ndlovu, was on patrol last Friday when he noticed a man climbing over the perimeter fence of a Bellevue Road complex and immediately called for back-up.

Ndlovu gave chase and successfully apprehended the suspect before he was able to escape. The suspect was handed over to the Berea police.

Ivan Govender, district manager of ADT Security KZN, commended Officer Ndlovu for his vigilance and quick response. “Regularly check your perimeter fencing and ensure that windows and doors are properly closed when you are not home. As an extra security measure, consider installing outdoor beams; if you already have them ensure that they are also activated during the night and when your home is unoccupied. Should you come across a suspect on your property, immediately contact your security service provider or the SAPS. Never confront them or attempt to capture the suspects because they may be armed and dangerous,” Govender advised residents.
