Cases opened at Umbilo SAPS this weekend included hijacking, murder and attempted murder.

Hijacking

A WOMAN was hijacked outside her home in York Avenue, Glenwood, on 6 November at 7.15pm.

The woman was at home when she decided to go out. She opened the gate and saw three men who she thought were just walking past down the road. One of them came up behind her and told her to be quiet. They pushed her into the car, jumped into the car and drove off. They demanded her handbag, took her bank cards and withdrew money from her account. They made another stop where another man offered to buy the car. The men got out of the car and ran away as they saw a police vehicle nearby. The police found the woman and took her to Umbilo SAPS where a case of car hijacking was opened.

Lt Pumzile Makaula from Umbilo SAPS said there had been an increase in hijackings in York Avenue and Shelley Road, Umbilo.
