Businessman wounded in CBD shooting

Durban Central police arrested all three suspects involved in the shooting at a store in the CBD where a businessman was shot this morning.

A Durban businessman is in a stable condition recovering in hospital after a gang of armed robbers opened fire on him at his business on Dr Pixley Ka Seme (West) Street this morning.

According to Constable Zanele Khomo, of Durban Central SAPS, the incident occurred at about 7.45 this morning. “The owner of the store, which provides financial services, was approached by three male suspects who opened fire on him. The victim exchanged fire and one suspect was wounded and the other two suspects fled,” she explained.

Khomo said the quick response by Durban Central, saw the two suspects arrested and the two firearms, a pistol and a 38 revolver recovered. All three suspects were between 38 and 40 years old.

“The injured suspect is under police guard at a local hospital, the victim is also recovering in hospital,” she added.

The suspects will be charged with business robbery attempted murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm and are expected to appear in Durban Magistrates Court on Monday.
