Fees must fall protest spreads to UKZN

There is still no indication of when the settlement will be reached between both parties.

STUDENTS at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, UKZN, joined the “Fees must Fall” protest action this morning with a small pockets of student protesting through Howard College and Westville campuses.

Lesiba Seshoka spokeperson for UKZN said the university was aware of the national march called upon by SASCO for all university students to engage in protest action on 21 October 2015.

“The University respects the rights of student to protest in a peaceful manner and lies within the realm of the law. Additional security measures have been put in place to monitor the situation on all University campuses.

University Management is in discussions with the SRC regarding the fee increase for 2016. Once a decision is made the outcome will be announced to the University community,” she added.

Meanwhile there is a strong police and security presence on all campuses.
