Council for Educators opens doors in Durban

The South African Council for Educators opened new offices in Durban to deal with educator issues and registration.

THE South African Council for Educators, SACE, officially opened its first provincial office at Joe Slovo (Field) Street in Durban on Friday, 9 October.

While MEC for Education, Peggy Nkonyeni was unable to attend the launch, Dr Nkosinathi Sishi KZN DOE head, shared her sentiments, “As an integral player in the education system, the Department of Education has had untold challenges resulting from inadequate coordination by all stakeholders in addressing certain cases requiring urgent attention. We are therefore hopeful that the establishment of this office will significantly reduce turn around time on mediation cases, especially those requiring urgent attention.”

In Nkonyeni's words, Sishi said the opening of the office could not have happened at a more opportune time with matriculants sitting for their final National Senior Certificate examinations in two weeks. “As a Department we have all precautionary measures in place ensuring that all systems function as expected. We have learnt from last year’s challenges and allocated extensive resources in ensuring that we close all gaps that exist.”

Reg Brijlal. SACE CEO and chairperson, saluted the unions for their support of SACE and thanked the HOD, Dr Sishi for his exemplary leadership and added he was counting on the province for their expertise and high level of service delivery.

SACE took the opportunity to surprise the Education HOD, Dr Sishi with his Certificate of Registration as an Educator.
