Two pupils knocked by a vehicle

Two young school boys who were hit by a car earlier this morning are fighting for their lives in hospital.

TWO school pupils are in hospital fighting for their lives after they were hit by a vehicle on a busy Durban road early this morning.

According to Garrith Jamieson, operations director for Rescue Care, the two boys, aged eight and 10 years old, were seriously injured when they were knocked over in Brickfield Road near Crescent Street at around 7am this morning.

“Paramedics arrived on the scene to find the two injured boys on either side of the busy road. Both had sustained serious injuries and advanced life support intervention was needed to stabilise them on the scene before both were transported to a nearby hospital for the further care. The lady driving the vehicle was slightly injured and also transported to a nearby hospital for further care,” he explained.

Jamieson said at this stage it is unclear what caused the accident, however SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further. “Traffic was severely affected as Brickfield Road north-bound was closed while emergency personnel worked to clear the scene,” he added.
