2015 NACMA awards gets bigger and better

The National Annual Choral Music Awards, NACMA's will once again attract the countries best choral music lovers and choirs from around the country to Durban next month as well as international choirs.

THE countdown is on for the fourth National Annual Choral Music Awards on Saturday, 7 November. The NACMA Awards, known for its wide repertoire and punchy performances, promises to bring another stellar line up of artists to its audiences.

The NACMA Awards have attracted thousands of visitors from around the country to KZN. This year, the event organisers welcome a platform for International Choirs. The NACMA Awards partnership with the Young Mens Christian Association of South Africa, YMCA in 2014 will continue and this year through their combined efforts, will showcase choral music through an International Youth Festival.

Choirs from Norway will be included with those South African choirs from local YMCA’s and various YMCA-run educational programmes. Appropriately themed, Transforming lives through Art, the festival hopes to offer youth a cross-cultural experience and expose them to various forms of music and art. The International Youth Festival is at the Durban Music School on Diakonia Avenue on 7 November, from 9am to 2pm. Choirs both local and abroad will battle it out and the winners will be awarded at the NACMA gala dinner.

NACMA Awards founder, Vusi Mvelase said,“We are truly honoured and privileged to witness the growth of the NACMA Awards brand with each passing year. This is largely due to the warm embrace the Awards received from inception and the continued support from the public at large. This year our visitors will have the opportunity to experience the features of global choral music in all its diversity.”

The NACMA Awards have acknowledged the work and contribution that the late Dr Josua Hadebe made to the choral music genre and have renamed the NACMA Lifetime Achievement Award, the Dr Joshua Hadebe Lifetime Achievement Award in his honour.

Two additional categories have also been introduced in this year’s line up; Best Community TV Station Choral Programme and Best National TV Choral Programme. Also, this year, additional churches have been included in the Best Church Choir category.
