Two arrested for drug possession

The Durban Flying Squad Narcotics Team made two drug arrests on Friday night.

THE Durban Flying Squad Narcotics Team continued on their relentless mandate to root-out the drug trade in Durban and surrounding suburbs last week, and an operation was held on Friday night where a 34-year-old man was arrested at an apartment in Smith Street, Durban.

Police recovered one kilogram of hydroponic dagga, 119 grams of methacathanone and 18 grams of crystal meth. The estimated street value of the seized drugs is R120,000. He was arrested and detained at the Point police station, where he was charged with possession of drugs.

In another operation that was held at Isipingo last night, a 23-year-old man was also arrested and charged for possession of drugs. His arrest follows the persistence of Narcotics Team to eradicate drugs in the area. He was found in possession of 34 straws of heroin at Alexandra Road, Isipingo. He was detained at the Isipingo police station. The estimated street value of the seized drugs is R1 190. Police also seized R560 in cash which is believed to be from the proceeds of drug trade.

The KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lt Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni applauded the members on successfully making good on their directive by recovering drugs and arresting the suspects. “These operations will continue to keep our country drug-free which will assist us in securing a better future for our youth. We once again applaud those communities that keep us informed of drug dealing in their suburbs,” she said.
