Man shot in hijacking

A man was shot during a hijacking in Asherville on 5 October.

AN Asherville man was shot during a hijacking in his driveway early this morning, 5 October.

Blue Security operations manager Brian Jackson said hijackers ambushed the resident when he returned from mosque to his Tarndale Road home at around 5.30am.

“Four armed hijackers jammed his driveway gate and hijacked him of his car. He was shot during the incident and a family member rushed him to a local hospital,” he said.

He said the hijackers fled in his car with stolen cash and the resident’s garage remote. The suspects were apparently seen in the area in a white golf.

Sydenham SAPS attended the scene of the crime.

Jackson advised residents to be vigilant when arriving and leaving home in the morning and evenings as driveways were hotspots for hijackings.

“Criminals stake out their victims before striking so it is important to vary your routes to work and home and to be aware of your surroundings before pulling into the driveway. Stop parallel to the verge and make sure there are no suspicious individuals or vehicles around you before opening the gate and turning to pull into the driveway,” he said.

He said if motorists did notice anything suspicious they were to rather pull off and drive around the block.

“If a suspicious vehicle or individuals have not moved on when you get back rather call your security company and the police to investigate,” he said.
