Good arrests by Umbilo SAPS this week.

Hijacked car recovered
A CAR hijacked from Feilden Drive, Glenmore, on 25 September was recovered in Dududu.

According to Lt Pumzile Makaula from Umbilo SAPS, a woman and her friends were sitting in her car in Feilden Drive, when a man approached and knocked on the driver’s window with a gun.

The man told the driver to move aside, and drove the vehicle down to Sydney Road towards Montclair.

“While driving, the man spoke on a phone, telling someone he had the women. He then dropped the car owner’s friends along South Coast Road, and wouldn’t allow the owner to get out, driving off with her still in the car. She noticed they were being followed by a black Jetta,” said Lt Makaula.

The woman was dropped off in Scottburgh where she was found by the police, and was taken to Umbilo SAPS to open a case.

The car was recovered in Dududu. Fingerprints were taken and the investigation continues.

Robbery at gunpoint
ON 25 September, a man was walking along King Dinizulu Road at around 8.45pm when he was approached by two men, one armed with a gun, who demanded his bag.

The man sprayed the robbers in the eyes with pepper spray and ran back to his place of work, where he found police loading other suspects into a police van.

The police searched for the men, finding them in South Ridge Road. They were searched and the gun, which turned out to be a toy gun, was found.

The men were identified, arrested and detained.

Theft of motor vehicles

THERE were two incidents of theft of motor vehicles on 25 September.

In the first incident, a man had parked his Toyota Verso outside his home in Feilden Drive and discovered at 9am the next morning that it had been stolen.

There were no eye witnesses and the suspect is unknown. The car was recovered in Isipingo.

In another incident, a man had left his two cars parked in Davenport Avenue, and at 4.45am was called and told by the building manager that the building had been broken into and the car keys for the cars, a Mercedes Benz and a VW Polo, had been stolen. The cars were recovered in KwaMashu.

Alleged drug dealer arrested

ON 22 September, a 27-year-old woman was arrested by the Durban police near Cannongate Road, Berea for being in possession of dagga.

According to Lt Pumzile Makaula from Umbilo SAPS, the woman is allegedly a hawker, originally from Matatiele and currently living in Pinetown.

Umbilo police are investigating a case of drug possession.
