Teens appear in court for Durban Day stabbing

The teens accused of the stabbing of Montreal King at the Durban Day festival appeared in court this morning.

THE two teens accused of the murder of Montreal King at the Durban Day Music Festival at People’s Park, appeared in Durban’s Magistrates Court this morning. Both boys face charges of murder and attempted murder.

The teens’ defence lawyer read out their individual affidavits in court in an attempt to show why they should be granted bail. According to ECR reports, one of the accused, a Grade 11 learner, has no previous convictions and lives with his grandmother whom he helps out with her catering business. He claims in his affidavit that if he is denied bail it will affect his exams which are currently underway.

His co-accused disclosed that while he has no pending case against him, he has a previous conviction of assault and grievous bodily harm for an incident which took place in 2011 and where his sentence was suspended.
Both the accused plan to plead not guilty.
