City hosts family beach festival

The city will host a fun beach festival on Saturday.

ETHEKWINI Municipality kicks off the celebrations on being awarded the bid to host the 2022 Commonwealth Games this weekend with a fun-filled free-entry beach festival with entertainment for the whole family on Saturday, 5 September from 9am to 8pm.

The Durban beach promenade will be divided into various sections, with each one dedicated to an exciting programme of entertainment.
Sports fanatics will enjoy activities such as beach volleyball, soccer and aerobics. EThekwini lifeguards will showcase their skills at the lifeguard endurance competition.

Art lovers can marvel at the sandcastle building activities and art exhibitions along the promenade.

Kiddies will be entertained with “Come and Play” equipment, ball jugglers and clowns. There will also be an edutainment corner with the Fundubhale Storytellers, mobile museum and library.

The KZN Philharmonic Orchestra and eThekwini Sisters Chorale will perform their melodic tunes. There will also be live band performances by various local artists.

The festival is not only aimed at promoting social cohesion, it is to create a platform where people of different age groups, race and culture will enjoy themselves, keep fit and learn more about services provided by the Municipality’s Parks, Recreation and Culture Unit.
