Business as usual at Stables

Nadine Parker from Newmarket Stables hopes the municipality is in the process of trying to find viable options to save horse riding in Durban.

IT was business as usual at Newmarket Stables on Tuesday, 1 September.

According to Nadine Parker, she arrived at the stables in the morning, very nervous, not knowing what to expect.

The tenants were expected to be sent packing, following an eviction notice from the municipality, which gave them until the end of August to vacate the premises.

“The grooms were very concerned this morning, but it's been very quiet and business as usual today. Metro Police are also still operating from the premises. The City Manager said he would come back to us, but he hasn't. I hope the municipality is in the process of trying to find viable options to save horse riding in Durban and a workable solution for all parties,” she said.

She said she had been receiving calls all day from people wanting to know if they could still ride the horses, and the children were very worried when they arrived for their riding lessons.

“It is stressful and nerve wracking, it's been playing on my mind and I've been battling to sleep at night. There's nothing we can do, we just have to take it one day at a time and wait for the municipality to do what it needs to do,” she said.
