Alleged serial rapist nabbed

An alleged serial rapist was arrested by police last week.

AN alleged serial rapist was arrested by the Brighton Beach Task Team on 10 August, following a spate of cases that were reported in Wentworth and Montclair since January.

The suspect will appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court soon for six counts of rape. The suspect’s modus operandi was to lure women between the ages of 22 and 38 years by promising them employment. He would then walk with these women into a secluded area and threaten them with a knife and rape them.

He also carried a water bottle which he instructed the victims to wash themselves before raping them. Cases of rape were opened at Wentworth and Montclair police station since these cases were in those areas. The investigation will continue.

“We appeal to other victims who may have been allegedly raped by the same suspect to come forward and submit their statements to the police,” said Major Thulani Zwane from SAPS. “SAPS management welcome the arrest as we are celebrating the women’s month. Our detectives will gather enough evidence to make sure that the suspect will remain in jail if found guilty.”
