Chaos at Umbilo crash scene

Paramedics were greeted with a chaotic scene when a pedestrian was seriously injured after a tow vehicle collission in Umbilo on yesterday evening.

FOUR people were hurt, one seriously after two vehicles collided forcing one vehicle to mount a pavement and hit a pedestrian at the intersection of Hilier Road and Teignmouth Road in Umbilo on Sunday evening.

According to Garrith Jamieson, operations director at Rescue Care, one of their advanced life support paramedics, who arrived first at the scene was met with chaos. “Two vehicles had collided in the junction before one of the vehicles hadveered out of control and collided with a pedestrian,” he explained.

Jamieson said three ambulances were immediately dispatched to the scene to deal with the multiple casualty scene. “The pedestrian had sustained serious injuries with multiple fractures and was stabilised by Rescue Care’s Advanced Life Support paramedic before being transported to a nearby hospital,” he added.

The three other occupants from both vehicles were stabilised before they were also taken to nearby hospitals.

Jamieson said it was unclear what caused the collision, however it was alleged that one of the vehicles failed to yield at the stop street. Police were on the scene and will be investigating further.
