Charity dinner supports wildlife

SATIB Conservation Trust will hold a dinner to support wildlife, conservation and communities’ Trust.

SATIB Conservation Trust, a proactive PBO/NPO which meaningfully supports conservation, wildlife and communities, will host a fundraising dinner at the Mount Edgecombe Country Club on 12 August.

Guest speaker at the dinner will be Dr Markus Hofmeyr, general manager for Veterinary Wildlife Services for South African National Parks. As head vet for South Africa’s national parks, Dr Hofmeyr’s job sees him planning the logistics for some of Southern Africa’s biggest conservation projects. He made headline news a few years ago when he narrowly escaped death when a darted hippopotamus unexpectedly charged at him.

He will be giving insight into the state of our national parks and share some insights into current cutting-edge research and management initiatives being conducted in South Africa.

A highlight of the evening will be the auction of some coveted prizes including two conservation safaris for two people to participate in collaring a research lion, local weekend getaways, and international paintings and prints. There will also be an exhibition of conservation-themed artwork, posters and photographs on display.

Among the projects which will benefit from the fundraiser are Lion Management Forum of South Africa Hwange Lion Research Project conducted through Oxford University; Elephants Alive, a San Parks Research Project; Elephants for Africa in Botswana conducted through Bristol University; Wild Dogs Research in Umfolozi and Hluhluwe; Zululand Wildlife Reserve conducted in collaboration with Endangered Wildlife Trust.

Cost is R300 or R3000 per table of 10, which includes dinner.
