Military history tour of Europe

Join the South African Military History Society on a tour of Europe in 2016 for the society’s commemoration of the centenary of the Battle of Delville Wood.

THE South African Military History Society will be touring Europe in 2016 for the society’s commemoration of the centenary of the Battle of Delville Wood in June and July, including the Somme and Normandy.

People interested in joining the society on the tour are in for a treat, when the group travel from Monday 27 June to Paris.

The tour will include attractions such as the Ypres battlefields, will attend a Last Post Ceremony at Menin Gate, tour the Somme battles including Delville Wood and commemorate the centenary of the first day of the Battle of the Somme.

The trip will also include a visit to Caen in Normandy and an all day tour of British and Canadian D Day beaches and will lay a wreath at the Bayeux War Cemetery. There will also be an all day tour of American D Day beaches and St Mere Eglise, a visit to an American War Cemetery and visits around Caen and Bayeux, with the group returning to Durban on Friday 8 July.

The official guide will be Colonel Mike Bradley, who was the guide for the society's tour of Egypt and Libya in May 2009.
