Runners unite for kidnapped jogger

Safety in numbers: A group of runners set off from Stella Sports Club to raise awareness on Thursday night.

FOLLOWING the kidnapping of a jogger in Glenwood last week, around 50 runners from Stella Sports Club and the community, along with Umbilo SAPS, got together on Thursday night to create awareness.

Umbilo SAPS communications officer, Lt Pumzile Makaula said the walk was a show of support for the woman who was kidnapped, and to give runners advice.

The police shared tips with the runners to help them avoid becoming isolated while running on the road and Lt Makaula urged runners not to run in the dark, either in the early morning or night, not to run with earphones on, as they would not be able to hear if anyone approaches them, and always to run in groups or pairs for safety reasons.

The woman who was kidnapped joined in on the night, and expressed her appreciation for the support shown by the community.
