17 injured in taxi crash

Seventeen commuters were injured in a taxi rollover crash and motorists are encouraged to drive with extreme caution especially in wet weather conditions.

SEVENTEEN commuters were injured, five of them seriously, after a taxi veered out of control and rolled on Booth Road near the N2 bridge on Monday afternoon.

According to Rescue Care director, Garrith Jamieson, paramedics arrived to find the multiple patients lying on the side of the roadway. “More ambulances were requested to assist in the multiple casualty scene. A total of 17 people had sustained various injuries with five sustaining serious injuries. Once all of the injured had been stabilised they were transported to various Durban hospitals for the further care that they required,” he explained.

Jamieson said it was unclear what caused the single vehicle to lose control and roll however SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating the incident further.
