News from Berea SAPS

Berea police have been had at work to bring crime to a minimum this past week.

WHILE fashionistas and punters busied themselves with the excitement of the races at the Vodacom Durban July, Berea police were kept busy with opportunistic criminals preying on race goers.

According to Lieutenant PN Naidoo, spokesman for Berea police, a lot of arrests were made on Saturday related to the Vodacom July.

Naidoo said five suspects were arrested for general theft, while one was arrested for being in possession of suspected stolen property at the races. “We also had three arrested for fraud as they were found selling fake tickets outside the racecourse. Four were arrested for theft out of motor vehicle,” he explained.

Be crime aware

Lt Naidoo said the community must be made aware not to isolate themselves whilst leaving any event but rather walk in groups toward their vehicles.

“Do not allow strangers to hug or hold you because you could be pick pocketed. Do not leave valuables exposed in vehicles parked on the roadside,” he advised.
