Crematorium closed for repairs

The Mobeni Heights crematorium will be closed till the end of June for repairs.

EThekwini Municipality has announced that its Mobeni Heights Crematorium has been temporarily closed while repairs are being carried out on one cremator and while the other is being replaced on site.

The repair work is being done to ensure the proper functioning of the existing operating cremator while also ensuring compliance with environmental legislation. The Municipality is also in the process of replacing one of the cremators with a filtration unit to ensure efficient cremations, which are within the regulated emission requirements.

It is anticipated that the new machine will be fully operational within the next three weeks. The Mobeni Heights Crematorium will be re-opened before the end of June 2015.

Residents wishing to make use of cremation facilities are urged to utilise the Tongaat Crematorium or alternatively use the Stellawood and Clare Estate Crematoria, which are privately owned facilities.

The City apologises for any inconvenience caused and assures residents that the repair work is necessary to ensure efficient and quality delivery of crematoria services.
