Electricity rebate scam targets pensioners

Pensioners are being targeted in an electricity rebate scam.

EThekwini Municipality has issued a warning to residents, in particular pensioners, who appear to be the targets of a scam that requires them to complete forms for rebates on electricity consumption increases.

The Municipality has confirmed that no additional forms are required to be completed, apart from the annual renewal rebate applications and new application forms.

Customers are urged to be vigilant to avoid falling prey to criminals posing as Municipal employees. Any representative of the Municipality will have an ID tag with a photograph, ID or employee number with the Municipal logo.

If residents are suspicious of anything, they can contact Revline: revline@revcall.co.za or the Revenue Call Center: (031) 324 5000
