Alleged thief stabbed to death in Durban CBD

A man was stabbed by a shop owner for allegedly stealing from his shop.

A man was stabbed to death by a shop owner in the Durban CBD on Wednesday 27 May at around midday.

According to Colonel Jay Naicker from SAPS, the 29-year-old man was allegedly stealing from a local shop when he was caught and stabbed.

“He sustained a stab wound in the neck and died instantly. Two suspects were arrested by Durban Central Police for murder and will appear in the Durban Magistrates’ Court soon” said Naicker.

The KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lt Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni commended the police on the arrests.

“We are extremely concerned about people taking the law into their own hands. The police must be given the space to do their job of investigating the crime and ensuring that the perpetrators are brought to book” she said.
