Taxi protests uncover baby in bin

Taxi opearators uncovered a dead baby in a bin while on their path of destruction around the city this morning.

AS angry taxi operators stormed through the streets of Durban they did not anticipate their path of destruction would lead to uncovering a crime.

According to Rescue Care’s operations director, Garrith Jamieson, paramedics were called to a horrific scene just after 11am this morning on Alice Street near Cross Street.

Advanced Life Support paramedics, Jamieson and Ceron Lennox were dispatched to the scene by SAPS for assistance.

“On arrival the two paramedics were horrified at what they saw. People who had been looting and striking had thrown a concrete bin in the roadway, the bin had broken and inside the bin was a infant wrapped up in a blanket.

“The infant was then run over by passing cars. Paramedics assessed the baby and sadly declared the infant deceased at the scene,” said Jamieson.

Ceron Lennox who is a mother herself and a paramedic with years of experience said that this was one of the worst cases she has ever had to attend to.

“I am horrified at the way this little child has died. Mothers need to realise that there are places that can help you should you need help raising the child or if the child is sick. People always ask me what is the worst thing you have seen as a paramedic, this is one of them,” she said.

SAPS were on the scene and will be investigating further.
