Drug bust at ‘plush’ Point apartment nets ten

Heroin with a street value of R150 000 was seized in a bust in the Point area this morning.

TEN people were arrested in a joint operation between the Durban Organised Crime Unit and the Chatsworth Cluster Crime Intelligence Unit at a flat in Point today, Wednesday 20 May.

Police spokesman, Major Thulani Zwane said the 10 people, between 23 and 37 years of age, were arrested in the early hours of this morning for dealing in drugs.

He said police had been following information of a drug syndicate which was operating in the Point area, and a flat was identified and an intelligence driven operation was conducted.

“Members proceeded to the plush upmarket apartment in Point area. Upon their arrival they found ten occupants busy packing and sealing heroin in straws. Six sealing machines were recovered and 6000 straws of drugs were also recovered,” said Zwane.

He said the estimated street value of the recovered drugs was R150 000.

All 10 suspects were arrested and charged for dealing in drugs, they will appear in the Durban Magistrate Court tomorrow, 21 May.

“If you’re a drug dealer in this province you should always wonder if you are going to be in the next round-up because our officers will be coming after you.

“I must emphasise once more the importance of communities working with the police to make these arrests, as many of the breakthroughs are also the result of intelligence received from residents,” said Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni.
