Two in court for drug possession

Two suspects will appear in court today for possession of hydroponic dagga.

THE Durban Flying Squad Narcotics Team is still on a mission to make Durban and its surroundings a drug-free zone.

On Wednesday 13 May at around 6pm, the team embarked on an intelligence driven operation that led to the arrest of two suspects aged 29 and 40, after they were found with hydroponic dagga in a flat in Kensington Heights in Peter Mokaba Road, Berea.

According to Colonel Jay Naicker from SAPS communications, when police pounced on the suspects at their residence they attempted to throw away the dagga packaging and locked the police out of the flat.

“The dedicated police officers did not give up as they already had evidence on the availability of dagga at the premises. They instructed them to unlock the premises, seized dagga and arrested the suspects. Police recovered 400 grams of hydroponic dagga with a street value of R40 000,” he said.

The suspects were taken to the Mayville police station and detained for being in possession of dagga, defeating the ends of justice, and obstructing police officers. They are appearing in Durban Magistrates Court today.

The KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lt Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni said: “During our drug operations, on a daily basis we are removing drug dealers from our streets. We appeal to our communities not to support these drug dealers. Where there is a demand for drugs, drug dealers will set up their operations. We need to keep them out of our neighbourhoods.”
