Total support boost for disadvantaged

Total South Africa has sponsored Durban-based organisations for disabled and disadvantaged communities.

IN line with Total South Africa’s commitment to support disadvantaged communities, the company has committed to sponsor two Durban-based organisations that provide special care to disadvantaged communities living with disabilities and special needs.

At an event at Durban Botanic Gardens last week, Total handed over cheques of R20 000 each to Golden Hours School and the KZN Deaf and Blind Society.

Total South Africa signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to renovate the dormitories at the Golden Hours School located in Durban North. The first phase of the agreement is for Total South Africa to upgrade of the bathrooms followed by the upgrade of the dormitories. The bathrooms and dormitories at the school are in need of repair and lack adequate facilities that are needed for children with disabilities and special needs. The upgrade of the bathrooms includes an entire revamp of the structures, painting and replacing of toilets, among other repairs and alterations. The refurbishments to the dormitory will provide a place of sanctuary and comfort for the school’s learners when they are resting after a busy day.

Similarly, Total South Africa sponsored a significant amount of money to the KwaZulu-Natal Blind and Deaf Society, whose main purpose is to provide services and guidance to improve the quality of life for blind and partially-sighted people, predominantly black South Africans from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The KZN Blind and Deaf Society’s programmes include stimulation programmes for children with these disabilities, a parent support programme, audio logical services for hard-of-hearing individuals and an Academy of Learning providing education and training for people who suffer blind and deaf disabilities later in life and those deaf and blind individuals who have not been able to go to school due to financial circumstances.
