Nurses’ Day celebration pays tribute to earthly angels

Nurses in the oncology ward at Netcare Parklands Hospital were honoured on Monday.

NETCARE Parklands Hospital’s oncology ward held a function to honour its dedicated nurses on Monday, ahead of International Nurses’ Day on 12 May.

Doctors, nurses, guests and oncology patients were treated to eats and talks by various speakers at the event.

Sr Alison Jean-Louis, unit manager, said: “The staff at oncology always strive to give of their best, and other departments assists us to do our job. We thank the doctors for their patience, guidance and continuous dedication, nurses can only dispense comfort, compassion and caring without a prescription.”

She mentioned the special guests of honour, the oncology patients, and encouraged them not to confuse their journey with their destination, that the storm now means sunshine is on its way.

“Our special patients bring out the best in our nurses, who are at the heart of health care. We pay tribute to these angels, who give of their best every day and care for their patients. To our nurses, may you always be a shining beacon for patients,” she said.

The nurses entertained those present with their rendition of the song This little light of mine and this was followed by talks by various speakers.
