DA leader accused in ‘smearing’ e-mail

An investigation to find the person who sent an e-mail containing allegations of rape, purportedly by a DA official, is currently underway.

A SENIOR DA KZN leader is believed to be the target of a malicious e-mail which contains damning accusations against him.

Media reports indicate that, while the e-mail accuses him of raping a party employee during a drinking spree at his house, the alleged rape victim has confirmed that no such incident occurred.

Speaking to the Mercury, the alleged victim further stated that she was shocked that her name could have been dragged into a political battle. She has vowed to take legal action and find the sender of the e-mail.

Meanwhile, Ward 10 councillor, Rick Crouch, who is also a  private investigator and skilled in solving digital forensic cases, responded to the article which made headlines earlier today. Crouch said, “This is another case of an anonymous  e-mail with the sole purpose of smearing a number of individuals’ reputations. The thing with people who send anonymous e-mails is that they think that by sending them from fake accounts on web-based e-mail services is that they cannot be traced. Here is a news flash for you: it can and it will be.

“There is a process that has to be followed, but the source of the e-mail can be traced back, depending on the device used, to either the owner of the SIM card used in the device or the router, and ultimately the computer that sent the e-mail.”
