Berea SAPS arrested trespassers and are investigating a case of armed robbery.

Trespassers arrested

Berea police accompanied Councillor Martin Meyer last week and visited and investigated the problems at vacant houses in the Morningside area.

According to Lieutenant PN Naidoo, communications officer at Berea SAPS, the purpose of the operation was to search and fingerprint all people on the premises and arrest all criminals.

“The house at the corner of Ninth Avenue and Madeline Road was visited and 21 people were searched and charged for trespassing,” explained Naidoo.

Cash taken in armed robbery

An undisclosed amount of money was taken by two armed robbers at a shopping centre in Overport last Tuesday morning.

According to Lieutenant PN Naidoo, communications officer at Berea SAPS, two men who usually pick up the cash from restaurants and do the banking for the restaurant had parked outside the shopping centre about to go into the bank when they were held up by two suspects with firearms. ”

The suspects took the money and fled. Berea SAPS are investigating a case of armed robbery but no arrests have been made at this stage.
