Man arrested in Musgrave drug bust

A man has been charged for possession of drugs after police recovered cocaine and mandrax at a flat in Musgrave.

THE Durban Flying Squad Narcotics Task Team arrested a man for being in possession of drugs valued at more than R20 000.

According to Col Jay Naicker from national SAPS communications, the task team received information of a suspect dealing in drugs. On 28 April at around 4.30pm, the police conducted an investigation at a flat in 6th Avenue, Musgrave.

During a search of the flat six packets of cocaine and three mandrax tablets were found. The total value of the drugs was R25 000.

A 43-year-old suspect, Chijioke Okoli, was arrested and charged for being in possession of drugs, and appeared in the Durban Magistrates Court on 29 April. The case was remanded for further investigation.

The KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner Lt Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni, congratulated the members of the Flying Squad for a sterling job in capturing the drug dealer and removing the drugs from Durban’s streets.

“We also wish to applaud our community who support this project by continuously informing police on the activities of drug dealers in the province. We will persist regardless of obstacles that may come our way, knowing that we enjoy the support of law abiding members of our communities,” she said.
