Tree damaged by truck

Yet another tree was knocked over by a truck which was travelling in a residential road in Umbilo.

THERE were no injuries reported when a large truck knocked over a tree in Umbilo on Monday, 27 April.

According to Jop Fourie, a resident living nearby, the horse (truck) and trailer with a container apparently pulled up and stopped opposite 506 Bartle Road. It appears the truck stopped too close to the sidewalk and collided with the tree, snapping it near the roots.

When the truck pulled off the tree fell into the road. Thankfully, no people were injured or cars were damaged in this incident.

“There have been a few articles in your newspaper regarding these big trucks becoming a big nuisance in the suburb of Umbilo. Bartle Road right down to Oliver Lea Drive, including Bottomley Road, is a regular parking area for these vehicles,” said Fourie.

Ward councillor Nicole Graham recently met with Metro Police and the Road Traffic Inspectorate to discuss the issue of large trucks using residential roads and parking illegally in Umbilo.
