Police arrest alleged drug dealers

Drugs recovered in a bust in Sydenham was valued at around R46 000.

SYDENHAM Police Station’s crime prevention officiers arrested two men aged 19 and 28 for possession of drugs and an unlicensed firearm on 24 April.

According to Major Thulani Zwane, officers  followed up on information that led them to a local flat.

“They asked permission to search the place and recovered a 9mm pistol and 15 rounds of live ammunition as well as 655 ecstasy tablets, 10 mandrax tablets, 68 whoonga straws, 29 grams of crack cocaine and four grams of cocaine. The total street value of the drugs recovered is R46 320,” he said.

Zwane said the recovered firearm will be sent for ballistic testing to ascertain if it was used in any crime in the country.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lt Gen Mmamonnye Ngobeni applauded the members for the arrest of the suspects and recovery of the drugs as well as the unlicensed firearm.

“This arrest is the evidence that our crime prevention members are observant and dedicated in their work,” she said.
