Stage 2 load shedding announced

The electricity supply system remains very vulnerable due to a shortage of generation capacity.

Ethekwini municipality has announced it has implemented Stage 2 load shedding as of 06h30 today, 15 April and has urged customers to reduce their consumption in order to reduce the severity of load shedding.

“The electricity supply system remains very vulnerable due to a shortage of generation capacity as several units are currently out of service due to planned and unplanned outages,” reads a statement issued by the municipality.

“Eskom has assured customers that load shedding is implemented as a necessary measure to protect the power system. Any additional changes on the already vulnerable and constrained power system could lead to a change in the stage of load shedding at short notice. This will be communicated if there is a need to change stages.”

“Members of the public are reminded that the Municipality has released a new load shedding schedule which was implemented from 07 April 2015.

“The Municipality is urging residents to make familiarize themselves with the new schedule so they can be prepared in the event of load shedding.”
