Durban’s fashion evolution gathers momentum

Durban models prepare for this year's Durban Fashion Fair.

THE 2015 Durban Fashion Fair has evolved into a whole new fashion movement – for the people by the people.

This year’s Durban Fashion Fair, which will be from 26 to 29 August, will bring together evolving and established designers, doyennes of the clothing and textile industry and take the city’s own style extravaganza to a whole new level.

Sindi Shangase, programme manager at the eThekwini Municipality Business Support Tourism and Market Unit, said over the years the Durban Fashion Fair has evolved into an iconically Durban brand and an event that is paving the way for Durban to re-establish itself as a fashion destination and undoubtedly the fashion capital of the East Coast.

Organisers are eagerly anticipating releasing the names of designers who will be participating. They will include both new evolving talents and big names in the fashion industry.

Recently, talented models arrived at SEDA, the eThekwini Business Development Centre, to strut their stuff on the catwalk and show off what they’ve got to be the next face at this year’s fashion fair.

All contestants had a chance to prove themselves and 19 were chosen to go through to the next round.

They will go through a three-month training stint with professionals in the modelling and fitness industries to improve their skills.
