Tree supports ECD

TREE gave back to the community when it supported Briardene Primary School, encouraging their children to play.

LOCAL organisation, TREE – Training and Resources in Early Education, believes that early childhood development (ECD) is vital for the development of children.

According to TREE’s director Bertha Magoge, ECD is a crucial investment that leads to high returns for each child and a guaranteed future for the country.

Speaking after a recent visit to the Grade R classes at Briardene Primary School, where each child received love and encouragement and a very special Uthando Doll to take home, she said TREE’s work in ECD was an immense privilege.

“We must start even earlier to ensure that children get the best start in life. It is true what they say – the future belongs to those who prepare for it. Let’s all prepare now for our children! We wish these young children a fantastic year of learning, growing and discovering through play in 2015,” she said.

Briardene Primary School services a poor community and is under-resourced, and on this visit TREE observed classes that had no toys, which are an important part of learning and holistic development in young children.

A local company, Adapt IT, donated two early childhood development toy kits filled with TREE toys and resources to the two Grade R classes. The children and staff of Briardene Primary School received these toys with great joy and excitement.

“The work that TREE does is incredible and working with an organisation with a sustainable outlook, especially in early childhood development, is not only inspiring but necessary to reinvest in the future of South Africa,” said Liesl Grobler, group marketing manager of Adapt IT.
