Community mourns bus victim

The Glenwood woman who was hit by a bus on Friday succumbed to her injuries on Monday.

THE Glenwood woman who was hit by a bus and was left fighting for her life in Albert Luthuli Hospital, succumbed to her injuries on Monday morning.

Believed to be in her fifties, Christine Lotz was hit by a bus along Clark Road near the Manning Road intersection in Glenwood on Friday morning.

Chris Botha, spokesman for Netcare 911 said advanced life support paramedics worked tirelessly to stabilise her, and after placing her on a manual ventilator transported her to a local hospital with severe injures.

Botha was unable to give exact detail as to how Lotz had been hit by the bus, but said police were investigating.

The Glenwood community took to social networking to air their feelings about the dangerous intersection and dangerous situation with buses in the residential area.

Community activist, Heather Rorick of the Bulwer Safety Community Forum Lotz had been kept on life support and had only passed away on Monday morning. “Her son was at the hospital. Our heartfelt condolences to her son and all her family and friends. Rest in Peace Christine, free from pain and suffering. What a tragic loss!”

Rorick said the accident was very concerning as motorists turning at the intersection didn’t realise that pedestrians also had right of way crossing the road they were turning into.

Umbilo police communications officer, Sergeant Beverly Manqele said a case of reckless and negligent driving was being investigated.
