Berea police host crime awareness day

The public are invited to meet the Berea SAPS and join in the festivities of their popular annual Crime Awareness Day.

BEREA police invite the public to meet them and join in the festivities of their popular annual Crime Awareness Day on Saturday, 28 March from noon till 10pm at Berea Park on Essenwood Road.

Lieutenant Naidoo said the fun event has been extended to the evening to include live entertainment, music, kiddies rides and stalls, radio personalities as well as the usual police and other government department demonstrations. “Bring your picnic baskets and come enjoy a fun family evening with Berea SAPS,” he added.

Sergeant Trevor James, one of the organisers of the event said, after last year’s success, which was beyond the station’s expectations, the plan for 2015 was to exceed the numbers of community members that attended last year.

“With this in mind we have had many members of the business community, schools and tertiary institutes volunteer and participate in the exciting police event.

“The idea of the CAD is to bridge the gap between the police of SAPS Berea and the community it serves. An event of this calibre highlights the role the various government and policing units play within the community. This includes the community structures like CPF, SCF and the various businesses and security service providers. We also want the community to be aware of the role they play in assisting the police with policing in the Berea area and creating community partnerships,” he explained.

Station commander at Berea SAPS, Colonel Nathaniel Kweyama, said the station and its members were “extremely excited” about the plans for the CAD 2015. “We have put a lot into the event and want the community to come through, meet us, chat and be part of the fun. We are ready to meet the people of the Berea and surrounds to have fun discuss concerns in a very easy and conducive environment,” he added.
