Kurtlee murder: mum hopes for closure

Blaine Raman and Dinesh Nana, two of the three accused of killing Kurtlee Pillay are expecting the outcome of their bail application on Wednesday afternoon.

WHILE the outcome of the drawn out bail application for two men accused of killing student, Kurtlee Pillay was expected to be announced in court on Wednesday afternoon, Kurtlee’s mother told Berea Mail that she was hoping it would close the first chapter in the case.

The bail hearing has continued under magistrate Vanitha Armu at Durban Regional court since January where Kurtlee’s parents Benjamin and Tracy and family await justice. “I think that for our family it (the outcome) will be the closure of one chapter in this case,” Tracy Pillay said before heading to court on Wednesday.

Tracy said the family would obviously want the outcome to be in their favour, but added, “whatever the outcome, the accused must be prepared for it. Either way it won’t bring my baby back. Justice will be served eventually.”

Kurtlee Pillay was brutally killed in an alleged hijacking in Sherwood on Tuesday 4, November. Suspects were arrested the following day in South Beach. Blaine Raman (20), Dinesh Raman (21) and Bilal Tayob (26) are charged with premeditated murder, conspiracy to commit murder, hijacking and robbery with aggravating circumstances.
