WITH the Cricket World Cup on at the moment, St Henry’s Marist College has a link to one of the players.
Irish cricketer, Eoin Morgan, who captains the England national cricket team in One Day Internationals and who is leading the England team at the World Cup in Australia/New Zealand, spent a term at St Henry’s Marist College in 2003.
This was part of an exchange programme set up between St Henry’s and Catholic University School in Dublin run by the Marist Fathers. Eoin plays county cricket for Middlesex and has been selected for England’s Test, ODI and Twenty20 squads. He represented his native Ireland before moving to play for England. He is one of the only two cricketers ever to have scored an ODI hundred for two nation with his 110 against Bangladesh in 2010.
He grew up playing the 3000 year old Gaelic game of hurling, considered to be the world’s fastest field sport. The family love for cricket prevailed, and Eoin scored 200 in 20 overs the first time he played for Catholic University School.
