Bail application continues in Kurtlee Pillay murder case

The three accused of the murder of student, Kurtlee Pillay, were remanded into Westville Prison until next month when the bail application continues.

THE bail application for two of the three men accused of the murder of Kurtlee Pillay continued in the Durban Regional Court on Friday.

Sydenham investigating officer, detective Warrant Officer Krishna 'Monty' Naidoo, took to the stand for cross-examination after he submitted an affidavit opposing bail for Blaine Raman (20) and Dinesh Nana (21). Bilal Tayob (26), the third accused, had not applied for bail.

Naidoo testified in an earlier appearance that he had strong evidence against the accused, including fingerprints and video footage, which Raman's attorney, Anand Nepaul, questioned the validity of as evidence. Nepaul told Magistrate Vanitha Armu that after viewing the video footage, none of it showed any of the three during the incident, only being arrested outside the Belmont Hotel.

Kurtlee Pillay was brutally killed in an alleged hijacking in Sherwood on Tuesday night, 4 November. The three accused were arrested the following day. The trio are charged with premeditated murder, conspiracy to commit murder, hijacking and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

The bail application was adjourned to 11 March.
