Speed bumps needed, say residents

Residents at Bill Buchanan have been trying for 18 years to have some form of speed calming implemented in the roads near the home.

YET another request goes out to the municipality to install speed bumps in Morningside.

According to a resident of the Bill Buchanan building, residents have been trying to get speed bumps or some kind of traffic calming implemented up Lillian Ngoyi (Windermere) Road and into Goodwin Drive for the past 18 years.

Last month, a truck, which was allegedly speeding along the road, overturned across the road, blocking the way to traffic.

“This is a narrow road, and we feel something needs to be done about this,” said the resident.

Ward councillor, Martin Meyer, said: “The two roads passing by Bill Buchanan are a huge concern. My predecessors and I have put in numerous requests for traffic calming, but to no avail. The requests are always rejected. I have also asked for a pedestrian traffic light – although I am not totally convinced that these are safe – as well as looking into the possibility of a pedestrian bridge. I will continue to follow up on these.”
