Domestic worker injured in home invasion

Blue Security said many homes in Glenmore and Carrington Heights were targeted by criminals last week.

BLUE Security reported that a domestic worker was injured during a home invasion in Carrington Heights last week.

According to Blue Security operations manager, Brian Jackson, robbers targeted several homes in Glenmore and Carrington Heights where domestic workers were alone on properties during the day.

“A domestic worker was assaulted during a home invasion in Kinmont Crescent when robbers jumped into the house through an open window and attacked her. She was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment,” he said.

The robbers fled with a television, a watch and two cell phones.

Jackson said in the latest incident one robber had jumped over the rear wall of a property in Nicolai Crescent in Glenmore and boldly knocked on the door.

“When the domestic worker opened the door he held her up with a knife and then tied her up before fleeing with a laptop, iPod, cell phones, cash, a yellow Reebok jacket and electronic gate remotes,” he said.

Umbilo SAPS attended the scene of the crime.

Jackson said Blue strongly advised residents to regularly remind their domestic workers to be security conscious and to not open the gates or door for anyone, unless you have told them how to identify any contractors expected during the day.

“If the meter reader calls it’s important that domestic workers know that they must ask to see his official identification card before letting him in,” he said.

Jackson added that criminals had used ladders to access properties in at least two recent housebreaking incidents reported in Glenmore.

“We urge residents not to leave ladders lying around and to make sure that upper level windows are closed and adequately secured with burglar bars and alarm contacts,” he said.
