The three accused of student Kurtlee Pillay's murder made a brief appearance at the Durban Magistrates court this morning.

FAMILY members of slain Durban student Kurtlee Benjamin Pillay gathered at the Durban Magistrates Court this morning hoping for justice as the first appearance of the three accused of his murder got underway.

Kurtlee Pillay was brutally killed in an alleged hijacking in Sherwood on Tuesday 4, November. Suspects were arrested the following day in South Beach.

Blaine Raman, Dinesh Nana and Bilal Tayob were arrested and have been charged with robbery with aggravating circumstances, kidnapping and murder.

They have appeared in court and are still awaiting bail applications while being remanded in custody at Westville Prison.

Council for Nana and Raman requested Magistrate Vanitha Armu to adjourn the case which was granted. Armu remanded the three into custody at Westville Prison until next Friday, 23 January where council for the accused are expected to make an application for bail.

Despite another uneventful day in court, parents of Kurtlee Pillay refused to be deterred from seeking justice for their son. “We are fine and don’t mind the delay because we want a full investigation,” said Kurtlee’s mother Tracy Pillay.
