Behind Maria’s Jewish Christmas

Every Christmas is an intimate affair for the Lurie family.

EVEN though Maria Lurie is Jewish, she believes that the family closeness that Christmas instills is highly important and is something she cherishes dearly.

Every Christmas is an intimate affair for the Lurie family and, according to Maria, they all wake up with a warm, fuzzy and loving feeling.

“We wake up super early on Christmas morning as we’re all very excited. We each have our own chair in the lounge and the presents are spread out everywhere.

“Each person opens one gift at a time so we can see the excitement on their faces,” said Maria. “Once the gift opening is done we generally laze around and spend a lot of time going through our gifts, seeing how they work, trying them on and then we get ready for a family lunch.”

“We have opted to go to a restaurant this year as we will be suffering from short-family syndrome as my son is overseas. Even though our children are a lot older, the Christmas spirit never leaves you,” said Maria.
