Rovers signs MOU

A memorandum of undertaking was signed by Berea Rovers Sports Club and Hoy Park Management.

FOLLOWING the agreement reached by Berea Rovers Sports Club and Hoy Park Management over the future of the club, a ‘Memorandum of Undertaking’ has been signed.

Hoy Park Management has assured the club of an extended 30 year lease on its existing precinct and Hoy Park Management have completed the signing of their 30 year lease of the Kings Park precinct with the eThekwini Municipality.

Facilities and activities have been agreed upon between both parties including the erection of a new club house adjacent to the existing squash courts which will include offices, change rooms, bar, kitchen and activity/function room.

Five existing squash courts will be refurbished or rebuilt with the intention of building two additional courts all to Commonwealth standards with glass back and sides including a gallery and an astro turf for the hockey club and academy will be built to international standards.

All these facilities will be managed by Berea Rovers Sports Club.

The old club house will only be demolished once the new club house and squash courts have been completed. Hoy Park Managment’s architect will discuss club house designs with the club in the new year and once this is completed a model and plans will be drawn up for members to view and discuss.

It is envisaged the start of this project will only commence within the next six to eight months and the club will operate as normal during this time.

Dave Stevens, chairperson of the Berea Rovers Sports Club said the club thanked all those who were involved in helping secure Berea Rovers Sports Club for the next 30 years and also to the eThekwini Municipality for having the confidence in Hoy Park Management for allowing Berea Rovers Sports Club to be part of the exciting Kings Park precinct project which will benefit not only the club’s members but all sports men and women, residents, Durban and the KZN province.
