Chamber CEO celebrates

Durban Chamber CEO celebrated his 70th birthday recently.

ANDREW Layman, CEO of Durban Chamber of Commerce and Industry, celebrated his 70th birthday recently.

On Wednesday, 26 November, after a celebration that took place at the Chamber’s conference centre where he was surrounded by board, council and staff members, Andrew then went to the informal traders in the Durban CBD where he continued his celebrations by not only sharing his birthday cake, but also generously shedding knowledge of the business environment that he has accumulated over the years.

A former teacher and headmaster for 30 years, Andrew has developed a skill that a few are able to perfect.

According to president, Akash Singh, Andrew's wisdom, passion and eagerness of always being willing to assist businesses that require encouragement, a new direction or providing invaluable advice, has helped him execute his duties as CEO passionately and successfully. He is proud of the role the Chamber plays in keeping members, 80 per cent of whom run small businesses, informed about what is going on.

Andrew will retire in January 2015, his successor Dumile Cele, Manager of Business Services said there was no telling what Andrew may venture into next, but one thing is for sure, age cannot keep an excellent, willing man down.
