Two dozen injured in seven car pile-up

Peak morning traffic was delayed further as King Dinizulu (Berea) Road was closed to motorists entering the CBD while emergency services worked to clear the scene of a seven car pile-up.

AT least 24 commuters were injured after a seven vehicle pile up on King Dinizulu (Berea) Road Durban bound before Essenwood Road just after 7am this morning.

According to Garrith Jamieson, operations director at Rescue Care, the accident involved four taxis and three cars.

“Our paramedics arrived on the scene first to find absolute chaos. Seven vehicles had collided in a rear end format in the two right lanes of Berea Road.

“The problem paramedics faced was that there were multiple patients on either side of the roadway. Immediately more ambulances were called to the scene as well as the Durban Fire Department, Metro Police, SAPS and Search and Rescue. A total of twenty four people sustained various injuries.”

Jamieson said the injured were stabilized before they were taken in a number of ambulances to surrounding hospitals for further treatment.
