Interact club helps guide dogs

The Interact club at Eden College donated R20 000 to the SA Guide Dogs Association.

THE Eden College Interact Club presented a cheque for R20 000 to the SA Guide Dogs Association recently.

Interact president, Devaksha Dookhi, said 2014 had been a very successful and fun-filled year for Eden's Interact team. During the year, Interacters had kept busy planning, hosting and supporting various events for worthy causes.

“In June, our Interact team assisted at the Acting for Rhinos cocktail evening in promotion of the project. We have been involved in a series of weekly visits to St Theresa's Children's Home where we assisted the boys with their homework. Our major fundraising event for the year was the Eden's Got Talent contest where students were given the opportunity to showcase their amazing talent, and we also had a food stall at the Greenfest. After all these successful events, we managed to raise a substantial amount of R23 000,” said Devaksha.

At the cheque handover, Di Turner from the South African Guide Dogs Association for the Blind accepted the cheque for R20 000, which will be used to purchase one trained dog and two puppies.

“I would like to thank the Interact committee, our Interact team and their parents, everyone who supported us and our driving force, Mrs van Wyk. This year's success was only made possible with the love, support, dedication and help from them all,” said Devaksha.

“The Rotary Club of Durban is immensely proud of our Interact Club of Eden College which year on year makes a significant, beneficial contribution to the community,” said Rotarian Interact advisor John Johnston-Webber at the handover.
